This collection explores the many manifestations of Earth’s present state. What species do we value? Which do we view as hostile or a pest? What human narratives and meanings are (perhaps unfairly) projected onto these lifeforms and how can we look deeper?
The people of the moon world Damos Nuhl have coexisted and coevolved with the people of Earth for an unfathomable amount of time. While many continue to live, out of necessity, in the caves and tunnels of G’Neunther Milhwalka, their language and unique perspectives are now being revealed and studied above ground for the first time. As a native of the Hwalkan home world and a visitor to Earth, Ven Loetz has a unique connection with this vibrant community and culture.
A mirror can be haunted by many ghosts, most of which are supplied by the viewer. A reflection of oneself is reversed and distorted both on the surface of the glass itself and within the mind’s eye. Like a bad sequel, one returns to the same haunting over and over, making the same missteps each time. Face your ghosts and demand the lens of an objective observer!
While exploring the ecology of Earth, Ven has found it useful to keep a personal journal documenting and responding to various findings. It is written in their native Hwalkan language and illustrated with pen and ink. One day, Ven hopes to publish their findings for the people of Damos Nuhl to further interdimensional research and education.
Both Sue and Ven keep personal collections of objects in their homes and work spaces for contemplation and study. The objects include natural objects such as fossils and seed cones, as well as human-made objects like safety pins and washers.
